Samsung Washing Machine Error Code 4E: Not filling error
Applies to Samsung washing machines that show 4E or 4C, nF on the display.
Water is not entering the washer correctly. In most cases it is a hose connected to the wrong inlet, a kinked hose, a half-open tap, or clogged inlet filters.
What this code means
The washer expected the drum to reach a set water level within a set time and it did not. The machine cannot tell why, so the checks start at the wall tap and work toward the machine. Older models show 4E, newer ones 4C or nF — the same fault.
The manufacturer's checks, in order
- Make sure both supply hoses are connected to the correct inlets (hot to hot, cold to cold) and are not bent or kinked. If the hot line is not connected at all, this error can appear even on cycles labeled Cold.
- Do not use Flood Safe hoses — Samsung says their built-in shutoff can restrict flow and mimic this fault.
- Open the water valves completely and leave them open while the washer runs.
- Make sure the drain hose is inserted properly, not kinked, and pushed no more than 6 inches into the drain pipe. Do not remove the screw holding the drain hose at the back of the washer.
- Unplug the washer (or flip its breaker) for 1 minute, restore power and run a cycle.
- If debris may be blocking the inlets: turn the supply valves off, disconnect the hoses at the back of the washer, remove and clean the inlet filters, then reconnect and reopen the valves.
If the code continues after these checks, Samsung says to request service. If the drain hose holder at the back is missing, service is required.
