LG Washing Machine Error Code UE: Unbalanced load error

Applies to LG washing machines that show UE or uE on the display.

Quick answer

The load has settled unevenly, so the washer will not take it up to spin speed. Redistribute the laundry and restart the spin.

What this code means

LG draws a distinction most owners miss: lowercase uE means the washer is actively rebalancing (normal behaviour, not an error); uppercase UE means rebalancing failed and the spin was abandoned.

The manufacturer's checks, in order

  1. Stop the machine and redistribute the load so items are spread evenly around the drum — a single heavy item (a bath mat, a soaked blanket) causes most UE codes.
  2. If the load is very small, add a couple of towels: a lone item cannot balance.
  3. Check the machine sits level and does not rock on its feet.
Where you stop

Repeated UE codes with evenly spread, normal-size loads point to worn suspension or a sensor fault rather than loading — book service.

Same code, different brand

Error codes are not shared between brands. On Samsung washing machines, UE is the “Unbalanced load error” fault — see Samsung UE explained. Always read a code against your own brand's list.

Questions people ask about UE

What is the difference between uE and UE?

Lowercase uE means the washer is rebalancing right now — normal, leave it alone. Uppercase UE means it tried and gave up, and the spin was abandoned.
