LG Washing Machine Error Code LE: Locked motor error
Applies to LG washing machines that show LE on the display.
The motor is overloaded or stalled and the washer has stopped rather than keep driving against the load. Clear any jam, lighten the load, let it cool, and retry.
What this code means
LG's direct-drive motor reports its own stall. The triggers range from a coin jam to an overload, and persistent LE on an empty, clear drum points inward — to the motor's position (Hall) sensor or the rotor and stator.
The manufacturer's checks, in order
- Check for a coin or foreign object trapped between the wash plate and the drum — it can jam the drive.
- Reduce an overloaded load: heavy towels and blankets stall the motor.
- Let the machine sit for about 30 minutes so the motor cools, then restart.
If LE shows with a clear, empty drum, the fault is in the motor or its Hall sensor — that is a service repair.
Parts involved in this fault
| Part | Why it is involved | Typical price | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hall (position) sensor | Reports rotor position to the drive; a classic cause of motor codes on a clear drum. | $15-$35 | Check priceaffiliate slot |
| Drive motor | The motor itself. Technician fitting — live testing involved. | $120-$250 | Check priceaffiliate slot |
Error codes are not shared between brands. On Samsung washing machines, LE is the “Water level / leakage error” fault — see Samsung LE explained. Always read a code against your own brand's list.
