LG Washing Machine Error Code dE: Door lock error

Applies to LG washing machines that show dE or dE1, dE2, dL, E01 on the display.

Quick answer

The door is not locking, so the washer will not run. dE1 and dE2 are the same fault reported by different parts of the lock system.

What this code means

The washer will not fill or spin without a confirmed lock. LG notes this code can also occur if the door magnet is missing, or the door lock sensor itself is malfunctioning.

The manufacturer's checks, in order

  1. Close the door firmly and make sure nothing is trapped in it.
  2. On top loaders, make sure the lid is fully down.
Where you stop

If the door closes firmly but dE persists — or the magnet is missing — LG directs owners to request service for the lock or sensor.

Error codes are not shared between brands. On Samsung washing machines, dE is the “Door error” fault — see Samsung dE explained. Always read a code against your own brand's list.
