LG Washing Machine Error Code IE: Water inlet error

Applies to LG washing machines that show IE or E02 on the display.

Quick answer

Not enough water is reaching the drum in the time allowed. Check the taps, hoses and inlet filters first; in winter, suspect a frozen inlet hose.

What this code means

The machine monitors the water level against a timer. If filling takes too long, the cause is usually at the supply end — taps, hoses, filters, pressure — rather than inside the machine.

The manufacturer's checks, in order

  1. Check the taps are fully open and the inlet hoses are not kinked or blocked.
  2. Clean the inlet filter screens where the hoses meet the machine.
  3. In winter, check whether the water pipes or inlet hose have frozen — thaw them before running the machine.
  4. Make sure the drain hose is not pushed too far into the standpipe: water can siphon straight out as fast as it fills, which also reads as an inlet error.
Where you stop

If supply, hoses and filters are all good and IE still shows, the inlet valve or water level sensor needs a technician.

Same code, different brand

Error codes are not shared between brands. On Samsung washing machines, IE is the “System error” fault — see Samsung SF explained. Always read a code against your own brand's list.

Does IE mean the same on Samsung washers?

No. On Samsung washers IE belongs to the system-error family. On LG, IE is a water inlet error. Always read a code against its own brand.
