LG Washing Machine Error Code E3: Drain motor error (top load)
Applies to LG washing machines that show E3 on the display.
On top-load models, the drain motor is not operating properly. Freezing weather can also cause this code.
What this code means
Top-load LG washers drive the drain with a small motor that physically pulls the drain valve open. E3 means that motor is not operating — or that freezing has stopped it, which LG lists as a second cause.
The manufacturer's checks, in order
- Check the drain hose and filter are not blocked, then power-cycle the machine.
- Restart and watch a drain cycle.
If the drains are clear, the room is warm, and E3 returns, the drain motor needs replacing — a service job.
